Little Elm picked up where it left off in 2007, continuing to see a healthy increase in its sales tax revenue with its first rebate of 2008.

Little Elm collected $178,501.95 in sales tax in January, compared to 2007, when it received $122,316.37, an increase of 45.93 percent.

Oak Point was also well ahead for the New Year, up 20.95 percent, from $8,092.81 last January to $9,778.95.

Cross Roads was up 24.65 percent to start the year, up from $20,222.85 to $25,209.75.

Neighboring Aubrey also saw an increase, up 15.09 percent for January, from $39,081.06 to $44,979.68.

As for the big three in the area, Denton was the only one to see a decrease in its monthly sales tax rebate.

Denton was down 2.84 percent for January, from $1,536,676.50 to $1,492,994. The Colony, however, was up 10.07 percent to start the year, up from $385,779.89 to $424,655.63. Frisco, meanwhile, saw an 11.08 percent increase, up from $2,621,642.81 to $2,912,276.84.

Local rebates were among $303.2 million sent to Texas cities, up 7.4 percent compared to January 2007.

"Since the state's 2008 fiscal year began last September, sales tax collections are up 7.3 percent compared to the same point in fiscal 2007," State Comptroller Susan Combs said. "While increases have moderated compared to those of the past two years, solid sales tax growth continues."
