LEPD to host NNO open house Aug. 7 As part of a nationwide effort promoting police-community partnerships and educating citizens in building safer neighborhoods, the Little Elm Police Department will host National Night Out at Town Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 until 9 p.m. A variety of activities are planned including tours of the police station and town hall, viewing of the police vehicles, the LEPD boat, motorcycles, animal control, etc. Tables will be set up for the free fingerprinting of kids. Characters such as Red-E-Fox and McGruff will be on hand to greet the kids. Kids can play in the bounce house and kids of all ages can treat themselves to free hotdogs and hamburgers, compliments of the Police Department. Town department heads and town council members will be available to answer questions as well. There will also be a homemade ice cream contest this year. The contest is open to anyone who would like to show off their special recipe and get the "bragging rights" for the best homemade ice cream in Little Elm. Ice cream must be made on location at Town Hall. There are a limited number of electrical outlets so contestants are encouraged to use non-electric churns. The judging will be at 8 p.m. at town hall. If you would like to participate as a contestant please contact Sgt. Garst at (972) 377-1885 or at community-services@littleelm.org to register. The deadline for registration is Sunday, Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. A scavenger hunt is also being added this year. There will be one for kids under 12 and another for everyone over 12. Contestants will be challenged to visit the tables and other exhibits for clues to complete the hunt. Durham Transportation and Little Elm Pharmacy are providing free shuttle service at the following locations: Lakeside Manor, the New LEISD Stadium, Little Elm High School as well as from Brent Elementary School. Shuttle runs begin at 5:45 p.m. until the last rider gets safely to their vehicle. To schedule an officer to come to your National Night Out Block Party, contact Sergeant Steve Garst by e-mail at communityservices@little-elm.org or call 972-377-1885 by Aug. 3.
