Heat advisory issued for Denton County

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Denton County and surrounding areas.

Afternoon heat indices are expected to reach 105 degrees or higher in some parts of the metroplex.

Overnight lows are only expected to drop into the upper 70's to lower 80's offering little relief.

Persons involved in outdoor activities are urged to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Wear loose fitting and light colored clothing. Be sure to check on persons with health problems and the elderly as they are most susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Never leave young children or pets in an enclosed vehicle even for a short time as temperatures can quickly rise to life threatening levels.

Recognizing heat related emergencies:

- High body temperature
- Rapid strong pulse
- Red, hot, and dry skin
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Nausea
- Unconsciousness

Call 911 immediately if you see any of these signs, as you may be dealing with a life-threatening emergency.
