Jet ski, spa fundraisers to benefit food bank
By LAURA CHILDRESS

The Third Annual Jet Ski Adventure, benefiting the Little Elm Food Bank, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 11.

The fun will begin at 3 p.m. at Cottonwood Creek Marina, with contestants riding their way through pitstops before ending at the home of Bill and Lynn Hidell for dinner, games and awards.

The entry fee is $25 per person.

For more information, contact Bill and Jolly Roebken at 972-294-4811 or Bill and Lynn Hidell at 972-294-4475.

Virginia Berney with the Little Elm Food Bank noted that the annual fundraiser is especially timely this year.

"We've probably had more people come through the food bank in the last month than in any month before. We've helped around 48 people so far this month alone," she said. "Times are hard, with the recent rains hitting those in the building and landscaping trades hard."  In addition to the jet ski fundraiser, Berney added that LEISD is also asking parents and students to bring a food item for the food bank when registering their student.

Romeo and Juliet Spa and Salon, next to Starbucks, will also be hosting a food drive Sunday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Kids will receive a free haircut with a donation of two food items.

Items needed include canned pastas, tuna, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, canned milk, soup, tomato sauce and other canned items. Berney added a special thanks to those who make the food bank possible: Volunteers - Katherine Apel, Edward & Irene Arredondo, Barbara Avery, Virginia Berney, Greta Davis, Eula Faye Dougherty, Ed Flannagan, Donnie French, Pearl Gentsch, Charles Kownslar, Al Leistikow, Michael Merlene Family, Brenda Mills, Jennifer Morris, Jewel Narry, Martha O'Reilly, Nancy Schaan, Jane Schoknecht, Sue Seibold, Shirley Smith, Linda Topor and Scott Vivian.

Board - Abbe Patton, Lynn Hidell, Brenda Mills, Jennifer Morris, Gail Burr, Virginia Berney, Jennifer Mitchell Perry.
