News notes: Oak Point to host Freedom Fest celebration Saturday Better late than never. Oak Point will host Freedom Fest 2007 this Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Jake's Place. The annual Fourth of July celebration was postponed from its original July date because of weather. The celebration will include a parade, presentation of the Citizen of the Year award, food, homemade ice cream and pie contests, games and plenty of fun. The parade will kick things off at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at Stagecoach and Muleta in Crescent Oaks, travel to Emerald Sound and end at Jake's Place. Following the parade, the fun will begin at Jake's Place, including a classic car show, bounce house, DJ, hula hoop contest, tug of war, tow sack races, horseshoe pitching, face painting and pickup volleyball, basketball and softball games. Children are also encouraged to wear their swimsuits for the water slide. Brisket sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and beverages will also be provided, with residents asked to bring a side dish such as potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans or pasta salad.
