Area municipalities continue to see rise in sales tax revenue

With municipalities statewide averaging slight increases in their sales tax revenue, local entities saw a wide range in their monthly rebates.

Little Elm continued to see a rise in its sales tax revenue, up 15.23 percent for the month, from $154,255.91 to $177,750.17. For the year, the town is 10.5 percent ahead of last year's numbers, up from $1,055,063.77 to $1,165,925.56.

Oak Point is well ahead of last year's totals, up 62.5 percent for the month, from $5,707.96 to $9,275.86, to put it 82.45 percent ahead for the year, up from $38,659.24 to $70,537.45.

Neighboring Cross Roads, however, saw a 25.47-percent decrease for the month, down from $31,250.98 to $23,289.95. For the year, the town is down 2.13 percent, from $182,167.29 to $178,270.27.

Aubrey was also down for the month, seeing a decrease of 14.87 percent, from $51,678.60 to $43,990.21, but remains slightly ahead for the year, up 2.46 percent, from $336,233.12 to $344, 527.24.

As for the big three in the area, all saw an increase for the month. The Colony was up 2.61 percent, up from $571,422.84 to $586,381.84. For the year, The Colony is up 5.76 percent, from $3,515,433.93 to $3,718,106.22. Denton was up 14.09 percent, from $1,649,061.77 to $1,881,527.41, putting it 3.3 percent ahead for the year, up from $12,764,849.37 to $13,186,286.57. Frisco saw a 4.11-percent increase for the month, up from $3,487,230.65 to $3,630,812.98, putting it 5.46 percent above 2006's numbers, up from $24,307,342.37 to $25,635,074.98.

Local rebates were among $364 million sent to Texas cities, up 4.1 percent compared to last August.

Calendar year to date, city sales tax revenues are surpassing 2006 by 6.9 percent.

July state sales tax revenue and August allocations to local governments represent sales taxes collected in June by businesses that report sales taxes monthly, and sales taxes collected in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
